The Cadet Band is composed
of students who are generally in their second year of playing
an instrument. Some students begin the year in the Beginning Band
and progress quickly enough that they are invited to join the
Cadet Band in mid year. These skills are developed even further
and more advanced skills are mastered. This can be seen in the
difficulty of the music they play at the concerts. |
The Beginning Band is designed
to introduce students with little or no musical background to
the world of music. The students are then matched to instruments
and there the journey begins. They are taught to read music and
play the instruments. After developing basic skills they begin
to learn concert pieces. Before long they are ready to play in
the Holiday Concert in December. |
The
Grade V Pipe Band performs at all concerts and many special events
around the City and the State of Florida. The Pipe Band also performs
at many Highland Games around the State and has distinguished
themselves with many first place finishes and superior ratings.
They have also won the Supreme Championship Award of the United
States Southern Piping Association. This involves competing against
high school, college, and adult bands. The Pipe Band is able to
achieve this level of success due to the dedicated work of the
students and the superior leadership provided by Mr. Sandy Keith. |
